The Benefits of Spray Foam Insulation

During the spraying process, Quality Insulation expands up to 100 times its volume to fill gaps and spaces that are otherwise difficult to fill with traditional insulating materials. This allows the insulator to create an air seal throughout the entire building envelope. The tight seal prevents heat from escaping during the winter and cool air from leaking in during the summer.

In addition to preventing heat loss, the proper insulation system will provide an effective barrier against sound. This can help create a peaceful living or work environment in your home. It also blocks contaminants like dust, mold and mildew that can lead to health issues like asthma, allergies and other respiratory problems.

The Role of Quality Insulation in Energy Efficiency

A wide variety of spray foam insulation is available. It is typically used during the rough-in stage of construction and fills nooks and crannies that cannot be easily reached by other insulating products. This includes basement rim joist, crawl spaces, overhangs (or cantilevers), knee walls, and bonus rooms.

There are two types of spray foam insulation — open and closed cell. Open-cell foam uses water or carbon dioxide as a propellant, which causes it to be softer and more flexible than its closed-cell counterpart. Open-cell foam is typically sprayed during the rough-in phase of construction and is used to fill cracks and voids in walls, floors, ceilings and roofs.

Closed-cell spray foam uses chemicals that have a high global warming potential. However, many companies have switched to low GWP blowing agents. Some examples include BASF Walltite CM01 and Genyk Boreal Nature.
